Help for New Wikipedia Articles

Thinking about starting a new Wikipedia article for yourself or your business – but you just don’t know where to start?  As we’ve mentioned before, not every article idea or subject is appropriate for Wikipedia (go here for a few pointers).

So your first step is to determine if your personal/business/product/other Wikipedia article will pass Wikipedia’s guidelines (otherwise, your article will be deleted without notice – all that hard work down the drain).

How do you know if your article is Wiki-worthy?  Well, it’s time to ask some cool Wikipedia consultants.

Leave us a comment and we’ll help you determine if your idea is a good fit for Wikipedia or not.  All we need to know is:

  1. What your article is about
  2. A few details about your article, such as why it’s relevant historically, globally, culturally, etc.
  3. Your email (optional) if you’d prefer we followup up with you that way

We’ll be sure to get back to you and get you started on your new Wikipedia page.

  • Ah! this is just what i was looking for, unfortunately i’m not a native english speaker so i guess ill work on writing a good article to qualify, your pointers where very valuable! thanks so much for this!

  • Can i send a few articles a wrote about economy?

  • Wintress Odom

    Hi Smink,

Sure. Are they new Wiki topics that aren’t currently covered? Or are you adding on to current Wiki topics?

Just as a heads up: If they’re opinion based (for example: your view on where Chinese economy is heading; or your ideas on stock picks), then they wouldn’t be accepted by Wiki.

In any case, go ahead and send them over to wintress@thewritersforhire.com and we’ll be happy to take a look and see if they meet Wiki’s general guidelines for acceptable topics.

    Best regards,

    Wintress

  • Just a small tip for everyone out there, in case you want to be on the safer side its best to look for topics that are within a wikipedia article,, they are usually in red font..

  • Hello, I wanted to see if our band, Block Scholars, is eligible for an article on Wikipedia. Other than checking out our bandpage, I would like you to look at our page on http://www.themusicrevolution.com/wiki/mediawiki/index.php?title=Block_Scholars
as well. We worked on that page and you can pick up some past articles that we were in. We have won some notable songwriting awards in the last year and we feel that we would be as eligible as some local and national artists I have seen on Wikipedia. Looking forward to hear from you all.

    Sincerely,
    David Bell Jr.

  • Hi Dave,

Thanks for your inquiry. Jessica, our Wikipedia writer, will be contacting you shortly via email. We have a short form for you to fill out, which she will review to determine your eligibility.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to. Can you be more specific?

  • I really need help from some one that has written articles for Wikipedia and had them published without being deleted, I have try to write two articles about a company that makes several million dollars a year, and has a lot of exposure in the internet. It has 10 offices in the us, and has several newspapers and TV stations reporting their Job fairs and many other activities, Non the less my articles are still being removed. I do not want to advertise this company company I just want to place an article about the company and his owner. Can some one help?

I’d like to get feedback on a proposed Wiki article. My friend, Charlie Barnett, is an accomplished composer and musician and I would like to start a page for him to introduce people to his music and songwriting. I think his contributions to important documentaries is worth including on this site but having read all of the guidelines, and being a friend, I would like to get your opinion on writing this wiki article. Thank you for any guidance that you can offer. Sue

  • At least blog/article writers have a place to take their work, Wikipedia.

Your pointers are valuable are going to help many in their article writing.

  • I am interested. The business is found as http://www.olszewskistudios.com. Let me know soonest. Thank you,

  • Wintress

Hi Ray. I just emailed you.

  • Wintress

    Hi Mitch

Assuming you are inquiring about your store, “One Way Furniture,” it would probably not be eligible. The rule of thumb is that your business must have significant third party press to be eligible for Wiki. I don’t see any press about your business on a quick Google search.

Sometimes press has been generated, but does not show up in Google. If this is the case for your business, please let us know, and we would be happy to review the sources and let you know if you are eligible.

  • Would like to see the History of the Victorian Railways Investigation Division (Australia) / Victoria Transit Patrol Department (Australia) entered into Wikipedia as the department has 114 years of documentable history.

We Were And Always Will Be The ORIGINAL Victorian Transit Police.

Former Victorian State Government Department Consisting Of Dedicated Men And Women Given The Responsibility For Maintaining Law And Order Upon The Victorian Railways ~ Public Transport System And Protecting The Victorian Railways And The Public Transport Corporation’s Property From 1878 – 1992…

“WE DID IT WITH PRIDE AND WE DID IT WELL”

  • Wintress

    Hi Rohan,

I’m having trouble finding much info online about these departments, so I’m unsure about their Wiki eligibility based on the information provided. We’ll email you separately to see if you want to set up a consultation.

    Best regards,
