Celebrating the Remarkable Career of the One and Only Barbara Adams
September 10, 2025
After more than 30 years of shaping words into stories that inform, inspire, and connect, Barbara Adams is officially retiring.
While we at The Writers For Hire are thrilled for her next chapter, we can’t help but reflect on the extraordinary (and often hilarious) mark she has left on our team, our clients, and the writing world at large.
A Legacy of Excellence — with a Side of Sass
Barbara — “Barb” to those lucky enough to work with her — has built a career defined by clarity, precision, and heart.
With deep expertise in B2B and technical writing, she became the go-to writer for the oil and gas industry. E&P, midstream, upstream — you name it, Barb not only understood it but somehow made it sound interesting to people who didn’t even know what a pipeline pig was.

Her portfolio is staggering: hundreds of white papers, case studies, trade articles, op-eds, brochures, and even books.
Whether ghostwriting for executives, breaking down technical breakthroughs, or editing manuscripts line by line, Barb approached every project with professionalism and curiosity.
She could tackle just about anything — except maybe the Oxford Comma, which she would happily leave out just to make the rest of us twitch.
Wearing Many Hats — and Wearing Them Well
Over the course of her career, Barb has held positions as a radio copywriter, advertising executive, PR manager, and staff writer. For the past 12 years, she’s been a cornerstone of The Writers For Hire. She’s been a mentor, project manager, editor, collaborator — and the unofficial comic relief on our Friday calls.
Barb has a unique ability to bring order to complex projects, always ensuring deadlines were met and clients were delighted. She was never intimidated by a challenge; instead, she embraced it, asking the right questions and digging deep until she found the story worth telling.
And then there’s her humor. We could always count on Barb to bring a sharp insight, a cat story, or a quip that left the whole team laughing. If coffee was involved (and it usually was), there was no stopping her.
And when she wasn’t working? Well, she was probably quilting — with cats supervising from the fabric pile.
Beyond the Page
Barb’s impact extends far beyond the writing desk.

As an ambassador for the Histiocytosis Association, she has worked tirelessly to raise awareness and support for families affected by this rare disease.
Inspired by her own son’s journey with LCH — and his ultimate recovery — Barb became an advocate, fundraiser, and published author of three children’s books designed to help families and children navigate the disease with understanding and hope.
Her advocacy reflects the same qualities she brought to her writing: empathy, dedication, and a commitment to making complex things easier to understand.
A Lasting Influence
It’s hard to imagine The Writers For Hire without Barb’s steady presence, red pen, and wise counsel.
She has left an indelible impression not only on our clients but also on the many writers who have looked to her for guidance. More than once, colleagues have asked themselves, “How would Barb approach this?” — a question that will continue to inspire us long after her official retirement.

Of course, Barb claims she’s retiring — but let’s be honest, we know she’ll never fully step away from writing. (Words have a way of finding her, and she has a way of wrangling them into brilliance.)
Still, we hope she carves out plenty of time to travel the world, collect new stories, and report back on her adventures — preferably with pictures and her signature wit.
Congratulations, Barb! We’re endlessly grateful for your talent, your humor, and your heart. You’ve more than earned your place among the greats, and we can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds.
